But while this new trailer looks an awful lot like its predecessors, they're each different enough, both in terms of what they show and how they're cut, that they feel unique.
This is a lot of footage to mull over, and no one wants to be over-saturated by promo content before the movie comes out. How all of these characters will collide with one another is still secret, and that's a good thing. As far as Sony Pictures Classics is concerned, all you need to know is that Rama's back, bulked up, and ready to bust more skulls, although he's not alone there: Evans has a huge rogue's gallery of highly stylized heavies out for blood, too, like Hammer Girl and the grizzly, bearded Prakoso (Yayan Ruhian, better known to fans as The Raid's Mad Dog). There's a bit more to it than that - he has a few objectives along the road, notably involving Uco (Arifin Putra), the son of Bangun (Tio Pakusadewo), one of the bosses in the city's criminal empire - but this preview isn't really interested in the details. If you're out of the loop, The Raid 2: Berandal (literally picking up where The Raid leaves off) puts the embattled police officer right back in the line of fire, taking him undercover to bring down Jakarta's massive crime syndicate from the inside out. The US trailer, seen above, feels more streamlined than the international number from a few weeks back while also being more expansive than that initial teaser it provides us with the bare minimum set-up, explaining how our hero, Rama (Iko Uwais) ends up in the clink staring down a never-ending mob of bad guys to dispatch.
Now, fresh off the presses, viewers have a brand new clip to mull over, and it meets about halfway between its predecessors and ends up being just as awesome. Since November, two teasers for the sequel to Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans' 2012 action classic, The Raid: Redemption , have been unleashed one of them is short, violent, and absent of plot, while the other is twice as long, even more violent, and much more interested in the film's story.
